Walasse Ting was a Chinese‑American painter celebrated for his vibrant, expressive style that blends Pop Art, Abstract Expressionism, and Eastern calligraphic influences. Born in Shanghai, he later lived in Paris and New York, where he collaborated with artists from the CoBrA movement and developed his signature use of bold colors and fluid brushwork. Ting’s work often features flowers, women, and lively still lifes, rendered with an unmistakable sense of joy and spontaneity. His influential book One Cent Life (1964) became a landmark of the Pop Art era. Today, his paintings are held in major museums including the MoMA, Tate, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
